Motyf 2016. International Students’ Moving Type Festival: Moving Types — Gutenberg Goes Media – Summary

MOTYF is a collaborative project spanning not only German state borders but also national borders. Partners in the project are based in the German states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg as well as in Poland. MOTYF was initiated by the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technologies in Warsaw, the University of Applied Sciences Mainz and the Schwäbisch Gmünd University of Design.

The basis for the collaboration was the interactive media exhibition ‘MOVING TYPES. A Retrospective of Letters in Motion from the beginning of Film until today’. It was one of the respected flagship projects of ‘City of Science: Mainz 2011’. The z zg – Zentrum Zeitbasierte Gestaltung (Centre for Time-Based Design) at the University of Applied Sciences Mainz and Schwäbisch Gmünd has many years’ experience in this area, including in research, which developed into this highly regarded exhibition of film, advertising and the Internet. Not only did it exhibit in Mainz, but also in Warsaw and Dortmund, and it was distinguished with several important design awards. In the media, it was regarded as being one of the most important, yet at the same time most innovative presentations on the importance of the written word in modern media. The Gutenberg-Museum Mainz is also a cooperation partner.
